How much value do other people’s opinions have in your life?
Think about it…Have you ever started a new venture, career or side hustle, moved to a new location, got into a new relationship or anything simple, and your first thought is “What will others think of this?”
Seriously?!
Heyyy boo!!
You are not alone. I deal with that sometimes as well. We all do. We’re afraid to disappoint those we love. We’re afraid to be talked about for doing what makes us happy. We’re afraid to find approval within ourselves to make the necessary decisions to reach the goals we have set.
Truth is…. other’s opinions should not carry such a heavy weight on you. What others think of you, how others feel about you, and what you have going on….
Why should that matter?!
It shouldn’t. But a lot of us fall prey to this type of thinking. Wanting to be accepted, liked, and thought of in a positive light.
We have to be good enough. We have to do enough. We have to be attractive enough. We have to work at a certain job. We have to present this false narrative in order to be accepted.
Wheewww that is exhausting!!
If someone truly loves you, they will want to see you happy and living your best life. They may be angry in the beginning, but they would eventually get over their own personal emotions and support you.
Honestly…. You just have to be good… WITH… YOU! Your opinion about you is the only one that matters. You live with you. You sleep with you. You are always around you.
So here are some key factors that will help you to be good with you.
Know that you have value.
You don’t need anyone to prove or confirm that you are valuable or worthy. You do not need validation from others.
Know that your opinion is the only driving force.
Don’t live your life based on other people’s opinions.
“What other people think of me is none of my business.” ~ Wayne Dyer
Know that you are enough.
Let go of the need to feel accepted. You are unique and if others can’t see that and appreciate that why would you want to be accepted by them? That’s a lot to think about.
Know that confidence is key.
Be confident in who you are, in your goals, and in your pursuit. Yes, confidence is hard to achieve overnight, I understand. This is an action you have to continually perform. It requires a daily effort so that you can grow in confidence.
Know that you are unique.
Stop comparing yourself to those around you and to those who don’t understand your vision for your life. This includes not putting yourself down.
Give your best in all you do and embrace your imperfections. Oh… and stay around positivity.
At the end of the day, you have to deal with you! So do what makes you happy.
I hope move forward with closing your ears to the opinion of others and embracing what makes you, you. I’d love to hear your thoughts! Let’s chat in the comments.
