7 Ways to Unwind After a Busy Day

Have you ever had a day that was so overwhelming that when you were finally able to relax after a busy day you were still on a stressful rollercoaster? Unable to exhale and settle? Still stuck in the highs and lows?

Heyyy boo!! I can relate!

We’ve all been there. It’s so easy for our minds and emotions to be in overdrive while trying to push through.

In those moments, in those spaces, it’s important for you to disconnect from your busy day. Escape the chaos to renew and recenter.

It’s easy to fall into just lounging around on the couch, Netflix and chilling, but there are other ways to unpack the day and I want to help you with that.

Here are 7 easy tips for a relaxing evening wind down.

Exercise.

Exercising is beneficial not only for your health but also to help you recenter and release stress. It helps improve your mood, gives you energy and helps you think more clearly. All you have to do is set aside 20-30 minutes a day and get active. Walk. Run. Do yoga or high Intensity workouts. Whatever you choose to do, Move…Your…Body.

Go outdoors.

Spend some time outdoors soaking up nature. Allow the sun to kiss your skin and view God’s beautiful creation. Spending time in nature improves your mental health, boosts your self esteem, and increases your vitamin D levels.

Take a hot bath or shower.

Soak in a hot bath. Soak up the water in a hot shower. Either way inhale and exhale the steam, calmness, and the quietness while you relax. Doing this will decrease stress levels, soothe your muscles pains and soreness, and help you get a better night’s sleep.

Drink a glass of your favorite beverage with candles lit (or essential oils).

Glass of wine, glass of soda, glass of Black Raspberry Ice Sparkling Water (my favorite), or whatever you drink, get you a cold glass of it and get some scents going to liven up your space. You can even add this to your hot bath time. It is a game changer! Different oils have different benefits. Lavender can help reduce anxiety. Eucalyptus promotes relaxation. Lemon boosts your mood and energy.

Listen to relaxing music.

Find your tune. Find your vibes. Music relaxes you. So blast it. Loud. Sing to the top of your lungs if it requires you to sing. It’s nothing wrong with having your own concert where you are the celebrity. Listening to music gives you so many benefits. It helps regulate your mood, helps you process difficult emotions, and reduces stress and anxiety.

Spend time with loved ones.

Loved ones, whether it be family or friends, have a special way to heal you a little every time you are around them. Vent. Laugh. A lot. Just be present. Being around loved ones can build your support system, it gives you the opportunity to feel the love you need, and it improves your mental health.

Relax in a cozy space.

My cozy space is in my bed, just saying. Find your cozy space and get there. It gives you a sense of exhale when you get comfortable. Stay there the rest of the day if you need to. You’ll feel refreshed, revived, and renewed.

If you have kids, like me, or other obligations, I understand how some of these outlets may be hard for you to do. Do not be afraid to ask for help when you need to. Allow someone to care for your children an hour or a couple, or just help you out so that you can get back on track. You can’t pour from an empty cup. You have to care for yourself to be able to care for others.

I hope these simple techniques were helpful. I’d love to hear how you unwind! Let’s chat in the comments.

Until next time…
